Head Conditions of the Horse for 1st Opinion Vets

Conditions of the head are frequently encountered by 1st opinion veterinarians and a significant number of them can actually appropriately be dealt with in the field and don’t require any specialized equipment. This 2-day practical course covers head wounds, 1st aid, fractures, conditions involving the eye and adnexa, oral & tongue lacerations, sinus & guttural pouch problems, oral and nasal foreign bodies, cheek & wolf tooth extractions etc. The panel of internationally renowned specialists will discuss in detail how to triage horses appropriately and which cases might be treated within your own practice setting. In the afternoons, 7 hours of practical sessions will give delegates plenty of opportunity to further their practical skills on cadaver specimens and to ask questions in true small groups (2 delegates per specimen), all under the supervision of specialists. Each delegate will rotate through the following practical stations: Management of head wounds (incl. suture techniques), sinoscopy & sinus lavage techniques, oral endoscopy, guttural pouch lavage, cheek & wolf tooth extractions & repulsions, standing mandibular/maxillary fracture repair.
